The "PANORAM" (Mills Panoram Model MI-1340)

Have you ever heard of Soundies?

Back in 1941, when you took your date to a "jumping" neighborhood place, chances were that it had a Panoram. This juke box type machine, took coins and in turn would rear project a short 16mm sound film. Subjects were musicals by the hot bands of the day usually including their popular vocalists. If you ever find a short 16mm musical that has the writing backwards, then it's probably an old "Soundie". They were printed backwards so that they could be rear projected to the screen.

The film projection mechanism and amp were built by RCA. Thanks to Ken Layton we have a very rare Parts and Service Manual for this machine which has the formal name of
