The Holmes "Portable" 35mm projector was used extensively by "showmen" from 1930 to 1950 who would travel to a town, show films in a tent, church or school auditorium and then move on. The lamp was a 1000W 115 volt "mazda" but could be stepped up to a 1500W one. Not pictured is the separate 25 W sound amp & speaker. Both units ready to go were $990 in 1950.
The Holmes was popular with the US military in WWII. We have a complete Holmes Service/Operation manual for the portable US Navy type C and D which is available. Holmes projectors were manufactured in Chicago, Il and their production grew to include arc equipped models, the Holmes Professional and a Drive-In theater model.
In addition to the manual, we also have a Holmes Sales Catalog from 1950, which includes pictures and pricing for the complete Holmes line.
